Description :
Moortown Ring Road Wood (north) is located on the Moortown Ring Road adjacent Lingfield Drive.
It contains a canopy of predominantly
oak
and
beech
and provides for an attractive view on this very busy access corridor in an urban city.
The Moortown Ring Road Wood (south) is located adjacent to Shadwell Lane and contains a
number of
bat boxes
to assist with local wildlife habitats.
This wood has recently been
thinned to create space
for
understorey development.
The ground will be scarified (i.e. the compacted 'litter area' will be broken up) and mixed with the underlying
mineral soil to create the right environment for natural regeneration.
Moortown Water Tower Wood is located adjacent to Nursery Lane off the Shadwell Ring Road and
contains predominantly oak, beech and
sycamore species.
The importance of these amenity woodlands in the built up urban environment is appreciated and aided
by local residents, who take direct action in ensuring the area is kept clean and tidy on a voluntary basis.
Access and facilities :
While there are no public foot paths, the corridor formed by the three woodlands is well used and
provides an important amenity feature for the surrounding built up area and shelters the residential
housing from noise and pollution on a very busy traffic route.
