Description :
The 20th century public park was presented as a gift to Otley Urban District Council
in 1923 by Major Horton-Fawkes for "the exercise and recreation of the children of the urban district of
Otley". It passed into the control of Leeds City Council following local government reorganisation in
1974.
This is a well used riverside park providing varied attractions for all ages. There is a transition
along this linear park from the more structured, ornamental town park of the western end to the woodland
and open space for informal recreation of the eastern end, with the park and woodland being bordered by
the River Wharfe.
Access and facilities :
The park is located off Farnley Lane, Otley and has a number of facilities including a bowling green,
tennis courts, terraces with benches, children's playground, a footbridge to Otley cemetery and beyond,
footpaths, café, skateboard park, steps and a landing stage for the river.
