What are e-cargo bikes?

E-cargo bikes offer a simple, sustainable and cost-effective way to travel around Leeds. Whether you’re a business making deliveries or a family doing school runs and errands, these bikes provide a cleaner, quicker and more enjoyable alternative to short car or van trips.

They’re electric-assisted, easy to ride and designed to carry children, shopping or business deliveries. National trials show families and businesses typically use e-cargo bikes 3–5 times a week, replacing around half of their short car trips.

Cargo bikes also support our Vision Zero ambition to create safer and more liveable streets across the city.

Why try an e-cargo bike?

  • E-cargo bikes are an environmentally friendly alternative to some other modes of transportation.
  • No fuel, no parking fees, no vehicle tax, no MOT and minimal running costs. Businesses can save up to 90% compared with using a van for local deliveries.
  • E-cargo bikes glide through congestion and can be quicker than driving for short trips. They’re ideal for school runs, local deliveries or multi-stop journeys.
  • Carry children, shopping, tools, packages or equipment with ease. Many users find them surprisingly intuitive and enjoyable to ride.
  • Studies show that they can be more efficient and improve a company's image, making customers more likely to repeat purchase. People were happy to pay up to 5% more on goods and services from sustainable businesses.
