Equality Assembly

Our commitments and statutory responsibilities in involving Leeds' diverse communities in our work.

The Equality Assembly started in 2009 to 2010 and is made up of a number of hubs to enable us to engage with and involve residents in the decisions we make.

Our statutory responsibilities

The work of the Equality Assembly is underpinned by the Equality Act 2010. The hubs support Leeds City Council in meeting its Public Sector Equality Duty, ensuring our services, strategies, and policies give due regard to eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity, and fostering good relations between people.

Our commitment

Leeds City Council is committed to making Leeds an inclusive city. We value your feedback on our services and want to work with you to improve how we deliver them.

The hubs help us to ensure the voices of diverse communities are heard, especially those who are underrepresented or face barriers in accessing services.

Equality Assembly Hubs

The Equality Assembly Hubs offer a range of equality groups the opportunity to meet and work together to let the council know about the issues that affect them. Find out more about each hub and how you can get involved:

Our partners

The hubs are also open to partners including health, police, education, and third sector organisations as well as individuals from protected characteristic communities, to support more joined-up working.

Annual conference

Once a year, we hold an Equality Assembly conference to review the work of the hubs over the past year and discuss future challenges in an intersectional way.

The 2025 Equality Assembly annual conference will take place on Thursday 27 November 2025.
