Two blocks of three cohorts of young people participated in projects focussing on the arts, dance and sport in a combined pilot project between Leeds Museums and Galleries, Stretch and the Leeds Youth Offending Service, and completed in March 2008.
A series of workshops took place at the Discovery Centre where the young people, using objects from the collections, produced a number of different artistic interpretations, including sculpture, digital animations and portfolios.
Several of the participants have been put forward for the arts award.
This project was funded by the Learning & Skills Council and Rennaissance in the Regions and a film documentary highlighting the culmination of their efforts will be available soon.
Six participants from the first block have been successful in gaining the bronze arts award from the Arts Council and we are currently awaiting the results of the second block.
** NEWSFLASH**
We are pleased to be able to announce that one of the participants in the first cohort of young people on this project, has been accepted onto the Young Curator's Course at Leeds Metropolitan University as a result of this scheme! We wish her the best of luck!
