This page includes details of our service standards, how we are performing against those standards, and results of benchmarking we have carried out with Electoral Services in other local government authorities.
The cost of running Electoral Services
Local Government Elections in 2011 were combined with the AV Referendum taking place on the same day. Accordingly the costs of running the Local Government Election will be shared in part with the costs of the AV Referendum for which the local authority receives funding from the Government. The final costs will not be known until the claim has been submitted and approved by the Treasury. However there will be savings to the local authority due to the combination of polls.
In 2010/11 the cost of running Electoral Services was £1,710293.93. In Leeds there are currently 557,099 electors which is a total cost of £3.07 per elector.
In 2009/10 the cost of running Electoral Services was £1,630,730. In Leeds there are currently 547,225 electors which is a total cost of £2.98 per elector.
The increase in costs is due to:
(a) An increase in electorate of 1.8 per cent
(b) A ward by-election was held.
(c) Implementation of a formalised budget instead of actual running costs
In 2008/09 the cost of running Electoral Services was £1,561,696. In Leeds there are currently 549,893 electors which is a total cost of £2.84 per elector.
In 2007/08 the cost of running Electoral Services was £1,427,584. For this period there were 545,230 electors which was a total cost of £2.69 per elector.
In 2006/07 the cost of running Electoral Services was £1,411,214. For this period there was 539,000 electors which was a total cost of £2.62 per elector.
Unfortunately there are no comparative figures available from the other West Yorkshire Metropolitan Councils.
Performance against our service standards
Our service standards are available to download from this page together with a document which shows our performance against them. We have also published a comparison of the Voter Registration Survey and the Reception questionnaire both of these documents are available to download from this page.
We have published a document called 'What you said, what we did' which summaries comments from the various surveys/questionnaires we have conducted and also gives details of what actions we will take. This is available to download from this page.
Compliments/complaints and suggestions
We monitor quarterly the compliments/complaints and suggestions we receive. A document containing this information is available to download from this page.
Surveys and questionnaires
Reception questionnaires
All visitors to our reception at Leeds Town Hall are invited to complete a questionnaire to help us monitor our performance. The results of these questionnaires are available to download from this page.
Feedback
Monthly voter registration
Between January and September, a survey will be sent to 20 per cent of electors, chosen at random, who have applied to be added to the register each month. The results will be published each month on this page.
Benchmarking
We regularly benchmark our services with other Electoral Services sections of a similar size throughout the country. We will shortly have a document available to download to show the comparisons.
