Contaminated Land - Risk Assessment

Risk assessment involves estimating the level of risk - estimating the probability of an event occurring and the magnitude of the effects if it does occur.  It is an essential component of the Phase I desk study and Phase II intrusive investigation reports and, where relevant, forms the cornerstone of a remedial strategy for a site.

Human health risk assessment focuses on the assessment of risk to people and communities from hazardous substances or discharge of contaminants.  Leeds City Council has produced a guidance document (the 'green leaflet') which outlines the council's requirements for quantitative human health risk assessment.

The issue of naturally elevated arsenic levels within the Leeds Metropolitan District is also addressed within the leaflet.

The 'green leaflet' can be downloaded free of charge from the link on this page.
