Help to pay your council tax

Find out what help is available if you are struggling to pay your council tax.

Paying council tax is as important as rent, mortgage, fuel bills and child maintenance. We may take legal action if you do not pay your council tax.

Do not wait to get a reminder before paying. If you are struggling to pay your council tax and have received court summons, you may be able to agree a payment arrangement.

You can also use the link above if a liability order has been granted against you.

If an attachment of earnings, deduction from benefit or enforcement agent action is in place, an arrangement will not be set. Please contact Council Tax Recovery to discuss your account.

If you do not receive a letter within 7 working days, please contact council tax recovery by phone on 0113 376 0362 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 2pm, Friday 9am to 1pm).

If you ignore a reminder, you will be sent a court summons and you will have to pay additional costs.

Reduce your monthly payments

You may be able to reduce your monthly payments by paying your council tax over 12 months rather than 10.

You can change your direct debit online.
