Additional Safeguards

Some sites have additional safeguards on site due to the nature of the collections and because we often don't own the copyright of works of art.

These include Leeds Art Gallery, Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall.

Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall

Photography is only permitted inside with written permission being requested on the day of the visit for a specific private use i.e.  photograph of a specific exhibit for an A level project.

Leeds Art Gallery

Because many of the works on display are still in copyright, which is not held by the Art Gallery, photography at the gallery is strictly limited to specific private use or study (not for general interest).

Photography is not permitted at all without advance written permission being requested and granted and the applicant must give a purpose for the photography and state exactly which works they wish to photograph.

Unfortunately, permission to photograph in temporary exhibitions will not be permitted.

Photography permission forms can be obtained on these sites or can be downloaded via the links on the right. Thanks for your cooperation.

Many reproductions of historic artworks in the collection are available as postcards or prints in the shop or can be bought on line via the Leeds Museums and Galleries website.
