The Child Friendly Leeds Big Birthday Bonanza took place on 22 and 23 July 2017

 

A weekend of fun activities for children and families took place in Leeds city centre on the weekend of Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July as part of the Child Friendly Leeds 5th Birthday Celebrations. It was estimated that over 4000 people attended what was predominantly a FREE event for children, young people and their families.

Councillor Lisa Mulherin, Executive member for children and families in Leeds said: “We are immensely proud of Child Friendly Leeds, which is about putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do in the city, and we think it’s really important that they are central to our 5th birthday celebrations. Our wonderful ambassadors share the Child Friendly Leeds vision and we would like to thank them for taking part in and supporting our first FREE family friendly activities weekend. Leeds is a fantastic city and we should all feel very proud of what has been achieved so far."

Child Friendly Leeds was thrilled that CBBC joined the celebrations on Millennium Square with their fantastic 'Match of the Day' Bucket List game, which was hosted by popular CBeebies presenter Ben Cajee. They also provided CBBC and Cbeebies programmes that played on the big screen in Millennium Square Lidl also got in on the action and provided a football zone on Briggate.

  • A Teddy Bear's Picnic hosted by Leeds Dads in Millennium Square

  • A Pop Up Park on Cookridge Street

  • Inflatable from the Breeze events

  • Sumo Wrestling and a Climbing Wall

  • Go-Karting from Party Ideas Leeds

  • Trampolining from Oxygen Free Jumping

  • Toasted marshmallows around the campfire with Leeds Scouts

  • Pop up sport activities from Active Leeds

  • Storybook activities with The Rainbow Factory

  • Pop Up Sensory Room in Leeds City Museum

  • Indoor Garden at The Light

  • Story time with arts and crafts at Leeds Central Library

  • Colouring and a free child’s lunch with every paying adult at Colby’s Coffee

  • Films in the event space at Kirkgate Market

  • Drama workshop by First Floor at Trinity Leeds

  • Two performances of Carnival of the Animals by the Flutes Choir at Arts@Trinity (the big church next to Trinity Leeds)

  • Lego building and bunting making workshops at John Lewis and Victoria Gate

  • Bub’s Lounge presented by Thought Bubble and Travelling Man at Leeds Corn Exchange

  • Family Art Workshops and Tours at The Tetley

  • Skateboarding at The Works – special £3 entry

  • Arts and crafts from Parks and Countryside Team
