We are very excited to announce the opening of nominations for the Care Leavers Awards 2017!

The Awards provide an important opportunity for professionals, carers, organisations and our city wide partners to recognise and celebrate the achievements, talents and milestones of young people leaving care in the city.

The Celebration event, taking place in National Care Leavers Week, marks an important date in the city’s calendar and reflects our ongoing priority in supporting and recognising the personal achievements of care leavers.

We encourage you to share any outstanding efforts or obstacles a young person may have overcome to achieve their goals.


You can make a nomination in any of the five categories shown below:

Nomination categories



Sports Champion
This award recognises young people who are involved in competitive and/or non-competitive, individual or team sports. You may wish to nominate a young person who has proved to be an outstanding team player or has achieved great things through sport and physical activity. It may be that the young person has overcome personal challenges through a passion for sport.


Arts Champion
This award recognises young people who have positively engaged with, and developed their creativity through arts and culture. It could be that they have taken on challenges in a particular art form, such as performance, dance or drama, or they have been inspired and developed a passion for music, film, animation, poetry, or photography.


Turnaround Champion

This award acknowledges young people who have/ or are overcoming barriers, demonstrating resilience and a commitment to achieving their goals.


Education Champion
This award recognises outstanding achievements in an individual’s own learning, whether this be through school, college, higher education or volunteering programmes. The award also acknowledges commitments made to apprenticeships and/or employment.


Community Champion
This award recognises contributions made to the local community. This could include supporting or leading groups, charity work, helping and doing good for others, volunteering time and any other areas where a young person is making a positive contribution to the community.
