Leeds Domestic Violence and Abuse

Information for people who are abusive:

If you are reading these pages because you are concerned about your behaviour towards your partner, well done for taking steps to consider what you need to do to change.
Change is possible.  It can take time, how much time depends on how embedded your behaviour patterns are and how motivated you are to change.
We all have expectations of our partners and behave in different ways when those expectations are not met.
Domestic violence involves a person hurting another physically, psychological / emotionally, sexually, and financially. Over time, a climate of fear and intimidation can be created. It can be viewed as one person using their power and control over another.
If you think you may be behaving abusively, you may feel caught up in the pattern of behaviours.  We hope this website can help you understand a little about yourself, what you are thinking and feeling and how this impacts on your behaviour.
Most domestic violence is exerted by men over women though women can also be abusive and abuse can take place in same sex relationships.
We encourage you to continue your efforts to change, read through the sections that you think apply to you and follow up on the contacts available, talk about your concerns.
Continue to seek help and you will begin to feel better about yourself.

The West Yorkshire Domestic Abuse Perpetrator Service: Choices

Choices is a new service Offering support to low and medium risk perpetrators aged 16 years and over and their victims.

The service, supported by Together Women Project, will include victims in the perpetrators support package to ensure positive outcomes for the victim and their family.

What we do and how we do it

We work with adults aged 16 and above who are concerned that they are or become abusive in their relationship.  Within any intimate relationship and/or families.

The team will work with perpetrators to assess their support needs and work with them to identify problematic behaviours and how they may address these.  The service offers 1:1 and small group interventions alongside a structured group work programme.

All victims of abuse will be offered support, this include advice and access to other local agencies, information regarding keeping themselves and their families safe and an opportunity to input on the perpetrators package of support.
