Leeds Domestic Violence and Abuse

The Get comfortable talking about it campaign encourages people to think, talk and ask questions about domestic violence and abuse. Launched in 2015, the campaign had an overwhelming response with thousands of people engaging with us on social media, visiting our website, and sharing their experiences.

We are now reminding people to keep talking about domestic violence and abuse, as part of the range of activity happening in Leeds during the international 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence campaign.

We want Leeds to be a city that's comfortable talking about domestic violence and abuse, and where people get the help they need if they are affected by it.

To do this, we need to increase awareness of local support available to people, and better understand some of the challenges and key issues people face.

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch so far to ask a question, share a story, or talked about their experience.

If you would like to hear from us directly, please remember to send us an email.

LS8 5AW 25 November 9:00 – 12:00. Guest speaker, refreshments and activities.

This event was attended by approximate 50 Asian women from Harehills community. The event showed three really powerful presentations on forced marriage, domestic violence from a young survivors perspective and domestic violence awareness and available support. They had a young Asian women speaker who explained that her cousin had been subject to a forced marriage some years ago but she fled the family home after a matter of months. She talked about the effect this had on her cousin and the rest of her family. Her cousin was ostracised from the family and this is still maintained many years later. This was followed by fervent interactive discussions with the women about their own understanding and experiences.
