1. Bright Young Things is organised by Leeds City Council (LCC)'s Arts and Regeneration Unit.
2. Leeds City Council intends to produce a CD featuring the 15 selected entrants. The CDs will be used as a give-away on the cover of The Leeds Guide and further copies will be packaged and used for promotional purposes at the discretion of LCC's Arts and Regeneration Unit.
3. All entrants must be aged 25 or under on 31 December 2007.
4. Each entrant must submit a copy of their birth certificate or driving licence (or other document agreed with the organisers) as proof of age with the application form. Please do not send original documents.
5. At least 50% of the members in any band/group must be resident in the Leeds Metropolitan area during the period December 2007 - March 2008. For example: if there are three or four members in a band/group, at least two must live in Leeds; if there are five or six members in a band/group, at least three must live in Leeds, etc. All participants must declare their current address on the application form.
6. Because the time scale for the project is tight, entrants must declare their availability for recording on their application form. If subsequently, they are unable to record during these times, their place on the CD may be withdrawn or re-allocated.
7. By entering, BYT participants agree to licence the use of any track recorded during their BYT session on the BYT 08 CD and to licence the use of the same track, as well as images and photographs on the BYT website, CD artwork and other Leeds City Council material. Contact details for successful applicants will be published on the website and may also be made available to the press. All CDs will be available free and no mechanical royalties will be generated through this project. Participants may be required to enter into related promotional engagements (e.g. photo calls - to be organised at the bands' and organisers' mutual convenience). Submitted demo material may also be distributed to technical and media partners.
8. All demo tracks may be copied and distributed to the judging panel prior to judging. Demo tracks for successful applicants will be distributed to media and technical partners, these are for information and will not be used for broadcasting purposes.
9. By entering, all acts agree to perform as part of the promotional BYT live season in March 2008 and, if selected to take part, try to prioritise the gig dates as soon as they are confirmed. All acts must be able to perform their demo material in a live format.
10. Acts participating in the recording sessions and live gigs for BYT are expected to behave with absolute professionalism throughout the entire project, e.g. turning up on time, treating studio staff and other artists with respect, having a co-operative attitude, and responding promptly to enquiries from the press or the organisers.
11. Racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise abusive behaviour, lyrics or affiliations will not be tolerated and will result in exclusion from the project.
12. The decision of the selection panel - regarding the acts to be included - will be final (except where any breach of the terms of participation may come into consideration, in which case the decision of the organisers will be final). We are looking for new, original bands and music.
13. If the act line up or name, as originally stated on the application form, are subject to a change then the organisers must be informed immediately.
14. Participants under the age of 18 need parental consent to take part in this project. A consent form will be sent out to all relevant participants and must be signed and returned prior to the start of the project.
15. Gigs may be recorded live by the installed recording PA system. If this is the case, the recording can be purchased for a fee, or alternatively destroyed in accordance with the bands' wishes.
16. Contact details of successful applicants will be made available to technical and media partners.
17. By entering, all BYT participants will attend a networking/educational event on Saturday 16th February 2008 organised in partnership with LCMselect.
18. Leeds City Council reserves the right to amend or alter the projects format at any time without prior notice.
19. In all other matters and in the case of any disputes, the decision of the organisers will be final. Any band, group or artist found to be in breach of any of these rules may be eliminated from the project at any stage.
