 Get involved

We aim to involve a wide range of customers who experience our services to help you have a say about how we might improve. There are many different ways to get involved as a customer of Aire Valley Homes, ranging from informal one off opportunities to provide feedback, to more regular activities like our Focus Groups. Here are some of the ways you can get involved:

Helping to govern Aire Valley Homes

Tenants make up one third of Aire Valley Homes’ Board, helping to make strategic decisions about the way the organisation runs. Tenants also make up our three area panels. Keep your eye on the website and our Facebook page for upcoming vacancies.

Tenant Scrutiny Panel

With real powers of access and influence the Tenant Scrutiny Panel have a key role to play, undertaking investigations into our service and making recommendations for service improvement. Learn more on the Tenant Scrutiny Panel webpage.

Focus Groups

Holding focus group meetings is a great way for us to listen to your feedback, ideas and suggestions. We want to make sure the services we offer and provide are the ones that you need and use the most. We hold three regular focus groups:

Responsive Repairs

Chaired by our Building Maintenance and Adaptations Manager, this focus group is all about our repairs service and performance. Attendees are given the opportunity to share their experiences of our repairs service, review performance data and make suggestions for any improvements. In 2012, the Responsive Repairs focus group members helped Aire Valley Homes introduce our new ‘Phone After’ sampling survey. This is where tenants may receive a spot-check phone call following repair work.

Housing Management

Covering a broad range of housing management subjects, this group meet each month to discuss the services we provide, everything from environmental services, support and customer care, to rent collection and enforcement.  During 2012, the Housing Management focus group members helped Aire Valley Homes create a new Garden and Hedge Standard Guide, which tenants can refer to when maintaining the outside of their homes.

New View

Our ‘New View’ focus group is for tenants who have recently moved into an Aire Valley Homes house. We use this opportunity to listen to your experience of our empty homes service. The sessions are held six times a year; if you’ve recently moved into one of our homes and would like to come along to the next meeting, call Carla Yeomans, Involvement and Improvement Officer, on 0113 378 1338 or contact Carla using the form at the bottom of this page.

Remember, it’s your home, your neighbourhood and your community.  We want you to have your say in anything we do that concerns you.

If you would like to find out more about any of our focus group meetings, get more involved or suggest a way to improve our service, speak to the Involvement and Improvement Team on 0113 378 1338.

How much time does being involved take?

It’s entirely up to you. Everybody has different time available to give and so we promote lots of different ways to get involved that require different levels of time commitment. Click on our ‘Ways to Get Involved’ page to see how you could make a difference.

What if I work?

It is often still possible to attend meetings if you work. Different panels meet at different times of day and evening, and different days of the week. Groups will often arrange their meetings to best fit around when panel members are available to attend.

It’s also easy for you to stay involved from home. Some of our satisfaction surveys can be completed online, and we can keep in touch with you via email. You can also keep your eye on what’s going on, and communicate with us via our Facebook page.

What difference will it make?

It’s really important to us to hear your feedback so that we can understand how you have experienced our services. Listening to our customers is the best way for us to improve and we want as many customers as possible to have their say and influence and shape future services.

Will I be out of pocket?

Certainly not!  We will cover any reasonable costs that you may incur by participating. For example we can organise taxis to bring you to and from meetings, or reimburse costs of public transport.

We can also cover the cost for childcare, or any other costs incurred if you care for another person.

What if I don’t have the skills? I’ve never done anything like this before.

You do not need any formal qualifications to be involved. The best way to be involved is by providing honest and constructive feedback. However if you feel you would benefit from developing new skills we will look to support you with a variety of training and development opportunities which will help you maximise your contribution.

Click on our ‘Training’ page for more information on upcoming training opportunities.
