Emergency repairs

Emergency repairs include burst pipes, electricity supply failure and heating breakdowns with no other form of heat (for example a gas fire).

You will be charged for the time taken to attend your home if the repair is not an emergency.

What if I smell gas or fumes?

  • Contact Northern Gas Networks (formerly Transco) on 0800 11 19 99 immediately and turn off your supply at the meter. You will be given a reference number, you need to keep for future reference.
  • Put out all cigarettes and do not use any naked flames.
  • Open all windows and doors.
  • Do not use any electrical appliances including phones. Do not operate any lights!
  • Report the emergency to our Contact Centre on 0800 915 6660 and wait for help. They will ask you for your reference number from Northern Gas Networks.

  • Water – If you have lost your water supply, call Yorkshire Water on 0845 124 24 24.

How long will a repair take?

We set different timescales for different types of repairs.

Emergency repairs - three hours
These include works to burst pipes, gas leaks and total electrical failure.

Urgent repairs - 24 hours
These include works to heating breakdowns where you have no other form of heating, replacement door locks and blocked drains.

Appointable repairs - up to 25 days
Repairs will be completed as soon as possible by appointment. These include works to loose fitting doors and windows, leaking guttering, loose floor boards, a light or electric socket not working. 

Please make sure you are at home at the appointment time. If you are not, the job will be cancelled. You will then have to call us again to reorder the repair.
 
Planned work - up to 55 days
For jobs that need planning due to the nature of the work required. These include manufactured items like external doors and windows or where large amounts of plastering are required.
