Low carbon vehicle technology exhibition
Leeds City Council teamed up with Cenex, the UK's National Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon Technologies, to host one of the  UK's largest exhibitions of advanced low carbon technology vehicles at Leeds United Football Stadium.

The 20th July saw over 200 delegates, from both the public and private sectors across the UK, attend an event which designed to educate and raise awareness of new vehicle technologies and the urgent need to reduce transport emissions of greenhouse gases.

A modern diesel electric hybrid bus was also used to give delegates arriving by train a free lift from the central rail station.

Seminar
The day started with a seminar opened by Councillor Anderson and chaired by Councillor Smith which brought together a comprehensive list of speakers to explain:-

  • How low carbon technologies can combat climate change and and other environmental problems.
  • How the technologies work.
  • The funding opportunities available to help purchase low carbon vehicles.
  • How the technology can actually reduce operating costs.

Vehicle demonstrations
An extensive range of low carbon vehicles were exhibited outside the seminar including petrol and diesel electric hybrids, bio-fuels, CNG, hydrogen and electric technologies.

Some vehicles were available for test drives, whilst others provided rides to enable delegates to experience the smoother and quieter ride the new technologies provide.
