Leeds Core Cycle Network Project

Cyclists have a right to use the whole road network (except for the motorways) and cycling is considered for all highway schemes.

However to try and bring about a step change in provision for cycling and to raise awarness of it as a viable alternative to the car a cycling specific project is underway.

The Leeds Core Cycle Network Project

Leeds City Council is developing designs for a network of core cycle routes in Leeds that will improve conditions for cyclists and encourage cycling as a way of getting around.

Each route will be signed and use a combination of cycle lanes, tracks, quiet roads and junction improvements to link to housing, Leeds City Centre, schools, employment sites, parks and greenspace, and the wider bridleway and cycle route network.

The routes include some existing facilities and aim to provide a boost to the number of primary routes available.

Outline details of each of the individual core cycle network routes can be downloaded opposite and members of the public are invited to comment on them by emailing or writing to the contact details given.  This consultation period will run for three weeks until the 3rd July 2009.  Please read the FAQs before commenting.

Following this period of consultation each individual route will be progressed as resources allow and further consultation will take place as designs become more detailed.

If you would like to talk about any particular route or would like to see more detailed drawings then you can also visit the Leeds Core Cycle Network display.  This will be available during Bike Week at the Leonardo Building reception between 9.00 and 17.00 on Monday 15th June and on the, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of that week, or on the Tuesday in Millennium Square as part of the Get Cycling Try-out.
