Consultation now closed. The report will be published in May 2012
Introduction
We are proposing to make changes to Roundhay Road between Gledhow Road and Harehills Road to improve road safety, assist public transport, cyclists and pedestrians; and support local needs to improve safety for all road users.
Draft scheme proposals to make these improvements have now been developed and we want to know the views of local people and those who use Roundhay Road.
The current situation
Studies have identified a larger than expected number of accidents involving pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles occurred on Roundhay Road compared to similar roads elsewhere in Leeds. Several of these occurred at or near the Shepherd's Lane junction.
Metro and the bus operators have identified Roundhay Road northbound as a major source of delay for buses in the busy afternoon period.
What is being proposed?
On this page you will find a plan showing our draft proposals, which include traffic signals at the Shepherds Lane junction, measures to assist pedestrians, a joint pedestrian/cycle crossing and a bus and cycle lane to operate during the busy afternoon period, with restrictions to other traffic at these times. (See Plan 1 - October 2011).
Public Consultation exercise
We are carrying out a public engagement exercise. We have prepared a leaflet explaining the proposals together with a questionnaire that can be returned to a Freepost address. The leaflet and questionnaire will be distributed as follows during October:
- To around 3,000 properties in close proximity to the proposals.
- To passengers on buses along Roundhay Road
- To pedestrians on Roundhay Road
- To vehicle users along Roundhay Road
- Copies will be placed in local libraries.
Temporary signs will also be positioned on-street to inform all highway users about the consultation exercise.
Instead of filling in a paper version of the questionnaire you can complete an on-line version via the link on this webpage.
If you do not wish to complete the on-line questionnaire and you did not receive a paper leaflet/questionnaire you can ring us on 0113 222 4407 or email us on Travelwise@leeds.gov.uk to request a copy.
A copy of the leaflet can be viewed via the link on this webpage (See Leaflet 1 - October 2011).
If you want to discuss the draft proposals, staff will be available at The Compton Centre on Harehills Lane on Weds 2 November 2011 between 11am - 2pm and 5pm – 7pm.
What happens next?
We are asking the public to return their questionnaires by Friday 18 November 2011. We will analyse the responses and prepare a report for the Highways and Transportation Board which will be available on this website during May 2012.
