Street lighting

We are responsible for maintaining and repairing street lights and illuminated bollards and signs on Leeds’ roads.

The work is carried out by our service provider, Southern Electric Contracting (SEC).

You can report faulty street lights by either emailing SEC or by completing the faulty streetlights form which will be forwarded to SEC.

Some faults are categorised as emergencies and we attend to these straight way.  Please can you report these to our freephone number on 0800 0325349 as soon as possible.

The categories are:

  • door off/wires showing
  • hanging lanterns
  • street lights/illuminated signs and illuminated bollards which have been damaged or knocked down by a vehicle

Lamp posts have a number on their side and it helps us if you can tell us what this is when you contact us.

Although SEC patrol the streets on a regular basis to identify failed lights it helps us to provide a better lighting service if you let us know about any failed lights.

If you believe that SEC has failed to respond to your report you can complain by emailing us

The City Council, under a Private Finance Initiative (PFI), is currently working with our Partner, Southern Electric Contracting to ensure the replacement of approximately 80,000 old street lights throughout Leeds. You can follow the progress of the works at Leeds Lighting PFI website
