Gully cleansing

The gully service is responsible for the cleansing and unblocking of kerbside gullies within the Leeds City Council area, on adopted highways.

Approximately 250,000 gullies are serviced on a cycle. The service is delivered by ward and each gully should be serviced on an eight month cycle. There are exceptions to the scheduled frequency for areas where it is determined a higher frequency is required to minimise the risk of flooding.

This service will respond to floods caused by blocked gullies on the highway.

Gullies on private roads are the responsibility of the land owner who should make arrangements with an authorised contractor, who is in possession of Waste Transfer Certification, to undertake any necessary work and disposal of the waste. Leeds City Council will carry out such works upon receipt of instruction from the owners and acceptance of the costs incurred.

We can retrieve personal items which have been dropped down a gully, but we will need to make a charge of £78.22 plus VAT total of £91.91, for our time.
