Organising an event on or near a highway
We along with the police do not encourage events on the public highway because of road safety and disruption to other road users. However there may be occasions when this is unavoidable such as races or parades and in these cases we follow national guidelines.
Depending on the circumstances we may or may not grant a traffic order to close or restrict traffic movement. It is important to find out this information well in advance of your event. A minimum of three months will be required to promote a legal traffic order and much longer for large events. A cost is involved in processing and advertising the order.
