Reapplying and replacing a blue badge

Your blue badge will be awarded for a maximum period of three years. You will need to reapply for another blue badge when it is due to expire, as it cannot be extended. To reapply for a blue badge you will need to fill out a new application form and provide a current photograph (less than 6 months old) and recent proofs. The cost of a new blue badge is £10 and this fee will need to be paid prior to the application form being processed, to do this call us on 0113 222 4444 with your credit or debit card details. We will remind you to reapply six weeks before your current blue badge is due to expire.

If you have a blue badge because you get the higher rate of the mobility part of Disability Living Allowance or War Pensioners Mobility Supplement, and the duration of your benefit award is less than three years, the badge is valid for as long as that period.

We ask you to reapply because your mobility and access needs may change over time, which could affect your eligibility. It also allows us to ensure that your personal details with us, such as your address, are up to date.

If you are eligible for another blue badge it will be processed and sent to you seven to ten working days before your current badge is due to expire. It is not possible to send it earlier than this.

Lost or stolen blue badges

If you lose your blue badge outside your home or it is stolen you will need to report it to West Yorkshire Police on 101, who will issue you with a lost property number or crime number. (If you have lost your badge inside the house or the car you will not need a lost property number)

You will then need to:

  • complete a new form
  • provide the crime or lost property number
  • send a replacement photograph
  • make payment of £5 by calling us on 0113 222 4444

Your replacement will be issued for the length of time remaining from your original badge.

If your blue badge was lost or stolen within three months of it expiring you will need to complete a new application form and pay the full fee of £10.  Your application will be reassessed and if awarded will be issued for 3 years.

Damaged blue badges

It is important that the details on your blue badge can be easily read when you display it; otherwise a parking attendant may consider you are parked illegally. If your blue badge becomes faded or damaged in any way, please return it to us with a covering letter and call us on 0113 222 4444 to make payment of £5 and we will send you a replacement within ten working days of receipt.
