Avoiding congestion

Two new ways to miss the queues - travel cameras and journey time alerts

Travel cameras

Leeds City Council has a number of CCTV cameras that monitor traffic conditions throughout the city. These are used by the Urban Traffic Control team who respond to seeing congestion or other traffic problems by altering signal timings or taking other appropriate action.

Using these cameras you can see about 30 locations on the local road network and 55 on the motorways so you can check on road conditions before you start a journey.

Journey alerts is the new intelligent way to avoid congestion.

You can register a route and then get a text or email alert at some time in the future if there is a delay on your route. You can do this for your daily commute or for a one-off journey.

The aim is to make travelling in Leeds better for everyone. By knowing how and when to avoid congestion you can reduce it for everyone. We are currently trialling this ground breaking congestion busting system, unique in the UK and probably Europe. Currently the only road links with data are certain motorway links.

Please let us know what you think. We want to make the system as useful as possible.
