Feeling lucky

Do you touch wood, count magpies, or avoid walking under ladders? Did you take a lucky mascot to school exams or your driving test? Are you a dab hand at Bingo or have a favourite strategy for picking your lottery numbers?  Do you read your horoscope?

Abbey House museum is looking for objects and stories for the 2013 exhibition ‘Fate and Fickle Fortune’. We want to know how the people of Leeds make themselves feel lucky!

If you own any lucky (or unlucky) objects we’d love to hear from you.  We are also looking for people’s stories and anecdotes about family beliefs and superstitions.

If you would be happy to lend or donate an object, have your photograph taken with it, or be filmed telling us your story (which may be used in the exhibition) then please get in touch before the end of September and we’ll get back to you.

Kitty Ross, Curator of Leeds History, Leeds Museums and Galleries.

The exhibition will run from late January – December 2013 at Abbey House Museum, Abbey Walk, Kirkstall, Leeds, LS5 3EH.
