Leeds Rhinos will be attending a civic reception with their World Club Challenge opponents Melbourne Storm on 21 February 2013.
Hosted by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, the reception will be held to celebrate the 2013 World Club Challenge which will see current world champions and Super League holders Leeds Rhinos face NRL Grand Final winners Melbourne Storm on 22nd February.
The World Club Challenge is one of the showcase fixtures in the international rugby league calendar with the game taking place every year between the European Super League Champions and the Australian NRL Premiers.
The game will kick off a big year of international Rugby League in the city of Leeds with Headingley Carnegie also hosting the World Cup Finals for women’s, police and student World Cup festivals on 14th July along with the city being host to reigning world champions New Zealand for the Rugby League World Cup in October.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Ann Castle, said:
“Leeds Rhinos are a true sporting asset to the city and it gives me great pleasure to welcome them and their opponents Melbourne Storm to the Civic Hall.
“I wish both teams the best of luck for the match this weekend, and no doubt it will be a fantastic game.
“This year will also see the Rugby League World cup come to England, and we are very much looking forward to watching all the teams compete.”
