Leeds Museums and Galleries holds a large and varied costume and textiles collection. The collection covers clothing relating to people living and working in Leeds, High fashion and couture clothing and costume and textiles from world cultures. Leeds also holds a fabulous range of flat textiles, seventeenth and eighteenth century damasks are particularly well represented in this.
Items from the costume and textiles collections can be seen at Lotherton Hall, Temple Newsam, and by appointment at The Discovery Centre.
Examples of clothing related to people in Leeds will be on display at the new Leeds City Museum, opening August 2008.
