The Leeds Community Foundation acts as both a grant-seeker and a grant-maker. They work with private individuals, companies, organisations and statutory bodies to encourage them to use the Foundation as a channel for their own community giving. They also work with the local community, in Leeds, to help them access the grants they manage.
Sport Relief
Leeds Community Foundation have been chosen, by Sport Relief, to distribute their local grants in Leeds. Sport Relief was set up by Comic Relief and BBC Sport to use the power and passion of sport to tackle poverty and disadvantage, both in the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Criteria for the Sport Relief Fund
- The area of benefit is Leeds so you need to be based in Leeds or, if not, your project must benefit residents of Leeds.
- The aim is to support groups that are using sport and / or exercise to strengthen local communities and provide opportunities for people who are excluded or disadvantaged through low income, rural or social isolation, age, disability, race, sexuality or gender.
- Priority will be given to small, locally based voluntary, community and not-for-profit groups or organisations. Mainstream sports activity will not be funded unless it is benefiting disadvantaged areas or groups. Normally support requests for grants to buy new kit or standard equipment are not accepted but grants can be used to fund equipment or the adaptation of equipment to suit any special needs of the group concerned. There is no age restriction on the grants.
- Leeds Community Foundation are unable to fund individuals, statutory organisations such as schools, trips abroad, buses or mini-buses, building costs, activities that have already taken place, groups whose main aim is the advancement of politics or religion or where the main beneficiaries are animals.
