Leeds Disability Sport Development- Action Plan
The disability sports development officer coordinates an action plan which links in with a range of partners and feeds into the West Yorkshire disability sport development plan. The plan outlines a number of strategic aims to be reached over the year.

Schools
The disability sports development officer chairs a disability school group where representatives from sport and education meet to drive the direction of disability school sport initiatives across the city.
The DSDO co-ordinates and develops a school based coaching programme where qualified sports coaches lead curriculum PE delivery weekly in a selection of specialist inclusive learning centres and resourced schools.
The sports chosen directly compliment competitive opportunities that take place throughout the year for example national tag rugby festival, Leeds school boccia competition, disability football festival and disability sports hall athletics. They also feed into after school sport specific and multi sport clubs running across the city.

Sports Clubsnew age curling
All sports programmes are open to all and regularly have disabled people attending them.
Disability Sport Clubs
There is also a programme of specific opportunities for those who prefer to participate with other disabled people. Support is provided to these clubs in terms of coaching, funding opportunities, coach development and guidance through ClubMark accreditation:

  • Multi sports clubs – pan-disability clubs with activities including football, basketball, athletics, boccia, kurling, table top games and many more.
  • Sport specific clubs – including disability athletics, ability counts football, goalball, wheelchair sports, tennis etc. Individuals are able to develop skills in their chosen sport with chances to compete and progress through performance pathways.

Events and Competitions Boccia
The DSDO supports the school sports partnerships in the delivery of school based competition. Co-ordinates the delivery of Playground to Podium events in conjunction with Education Leeds and also co-ordinates the Boccia and Kurling teams for the West Yorkshire Youth Games.

Coaching, Volunteering and Training
The DSDO undertakes pool recruitment of coaches and provides training and mentoring opportunities for these coaches.
Volunteering opportunities are available through all programmes. Internal training is provided through disability awareness and adapting activities courses. Externally the DSDO delivers training through Sportsability courses and Sports Leaders inclusion modules.

Key Partnerships
The DSDO works closely with a range of external partners including the Federation of Disability Sports Organisations, West Yorkshire Sport, National Governing Bodies of Sport, sports clubs and voluntary organisations. The DSDO also sits on the West Yorkshire disability sport steering group.
There are also key partnerships with internal agencies such as Education Leeds, sports specific development officers, community sport and other council services.
