Badminton

 

Leeds has one of the largest and most successful badminton development schemes in the UK and has Performance Centre status from the National Governing Body - Badminton England.

Types of badminton

Casual pay and play badminton is available in most sports halls. Enquiries and bookings can be made at the centre reception or over the phone. Casual bookings can be made seven days in advance. If you have a LeedsCard, Breezecard, Bodyline card, induction card or corporate sport pass you can book up to eight days in advance and are able to book online.

LeedsCard and LeedsCard Extra discount will only be applicable if 50 per cent of players participating in the activity have the appropriate discount card. Each card must be presented at the reception at the time of payment.

You must give 24 hours notice for a cancellation or you will have to pay a cancellation fee.

Classes are available in leisure centres for adult and junior players of any ability. Qualified coaches help players to improve their game or just have fun.

Badminton classes are held at the following leisure centres:

  • Aireborough leisure centre
  • Garforth leisure centre
  • Kippax leisure centre
  • Scott Hall leisure centre

Active Life badminton sessions are an informal sessions for people aged 50+, they are a great way to meet new friends and keep fit at the same time.

Performance badminton

Performance centre programme. This is an entry level scheme for junior players, aged between eight and 18 years. Classes are held around the city and can be attended on a drop-in bases. The days, times and locations of classes are available to download as a pdf.

Advanced training scheme is for promising players between the ages of nine and 18 years. Entry is by invitation or by assessment from one of the training scheme coaches. 

Regional high performance cell  for junior players of county and international standard  based at Leeds Metropolitan University. These players are on the national governing body’s (Badminton England) world class programmes.
