Sport Leeds was set up in January 2003 to oversee the delivery of the Leeds strategy for sport and active recreation, "Active Leeds: Sporting City". This strategy has now been updated with 'Taking the lead' a strategy for sport and active recreation in Leeds 2006 to 2012. Sport Leeds is a partnership network for people and organisations with an interest in the provision and development of sport & active recreation in Leeds.
Sport Leeds aims to:
- Provide leadership and co-ordination for the development of sport & active recreation opportunities in Leeds. These opportunities include: to participate; to learn; to gain qualifications; to excel; to volunteer; and to be entertained.
- Represent the interests of sports and recreation providers and participants in building a strong sporting infrastructure and a vibrant sporting community.
- Influence the future development of sport & active recreation across Leeds, raising awareness of Sport Leeds and the opportunities available to participate.
