The tennis centre is located at the John Charles Centre for Sport. The tennis centre runs on a pay and play basis with no membership fees.

Casual pay and play - How to book a court
You can now receive discounts on court hire on production of a Leedscard, Breezecard, (Priority Breezecard also applies). To make things easier, you can also book your tennis courts online.

Adult social tennis sessions
The tennis centre runs weekly social tennis sessions for adults throughout the year. These sessions offer the chance to come and play in a relaxed and friendly environment. Here you can also discuss technical issues or obtain advice on any additional coaching sessions.
Junior social tennis sessions
The Friday junior social sessions runs every week throughout the academic calendar. This social aspect of the programme gives younger players the opportunity to put what they have learnt during lesson time into practice, as well as giving them the chance to play tennis more than once a week. Run by the centres coaching team, the session in open to children aged 5 – 16. All equipment is provided.

Competitive Opportunities
The tennis centre has several teams which compete in the various tennis leagues throughout Leeds. We are always looking for players to place teams in the following categories;

Matches are played on different nights of the week and play fixtures over the summer and winter season.
There is no limit to the amount of teams the centre can enter. Divisions cater for all degrees of tennis competency. If you would like to be involved, then get in touch with tennis reception to enquire further.
Competitive opportunities within the centre vary from singles and doubles matchplay leagues and ladders, for junior, senior and veteran players. Contact us for more details.
The competition programme for winter 2009/10 is available to download in PDF format from the right of this page. The matches are aimed at improving a tennis players rating.
Coaching for all ages and abilities
The tennis centre runs a comprehensive coaching program throughout the year. These sessions are organised by the coaching staff to cater for the complete beginner to advanced players.
City of Leeds Schools Mini Tennis Challenge
The City of Leeds primary schools mini tennis challenge is run every year by Leeds City Council in association with the School Sports Partnerships. The competition is the largest primary school competition in the UK.
Starting in January each year with over 100 schools, all of whom receive free coaching sessions, the event culminates with a grand final at South Leeds tennis centre in June. Each year hundreds of children are given the opportunity to begin playing tennis through this challenge.

Individual lessons with our coaching team are available for customers who require 1:1 coaching. These sessions can be arranged with members of the coaching team to suit your schedule. Prices will vary depending on which coach takes the lesson. Please note the customer is required to pay for the court cost. Contact us for more information.

Mini Tennis Coaching across Leeds
Leeds City Council run mini tennis red sessions across the city in various leisure centres and schools. Mini tennis is the perfect way for youngsters to learn how to play the game of tennis.
Adult and junior tennis coaching
The tennis centre runs a fourteen week coaching programme for all adult and junior players. These sessions run throughout term time and are designed to suit all standards and levels of play, from complete beginner to performance standard. These sessions are run by our professional coaching team.
If you are interested in enrolling on any one of our coaching courses, contact the centre and talk to one of our coaching team who can recommend which session is best for you.
As part of the John Charles tennis coaching programme, our aim is to also make you aware of more local opportunities that are available to you, as we want you/your child to continue playing tennis, regardless of where. Your local tennis club may provide coaching sessions for all ages and abilities and in some cases there may be no requirement to join. You can find details about your local tennis club by visiting:

Performance coaching
The performance programme at the John Charles centre involves players between the ages of 7 to 15 years. Players receive weekly squad, individual coaching and fitness sessions from the performance coaching team. More information can be obtained from the centres performance co-ordinator Andy Banks.

How to find us
The tennis centre is part of the John Charles centre for sport, based at Middleton Grove, Leeds, LS11 5DJ, 2 miles from Leeds city centre off Dewsbury Road (A653). Please note: John Charles centre for sport is signposted on the approach and has extensive car parking space.
If you are travelling by bus, catch the number 2, 3, 3A or 25 from the Corn Exchange in Leeds city centre.

Adult Coaching
The tennis centre runs a comprehensive adult coaching programme on different nights of the week. The sessions, organised by our professional coaching team range from complete beginners to advanced players.
