Love Tennis is a city-wide initiative to get more people playing and enjoying tennis on park courts across Leeds. Professional coaching, social tennis, exciting new versions of tennis and competitions will be available for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
Where can I play tennis
- Leeds has public tennis courts at 35 locations across the city. These courts are free to use throughout the year.
- John Charles centre for sport tennis centre has six indoor and six outdoor pay and play courts. John Smeaton leisure centre has six outdoor floodlit courts and Fearnville leisure centre has two outdoor tennis courts available to book.

Types of tennis
Casual pay and play tennis - John Charles centre for sport tennis centre offers year round pay and play access to six indoor and six outdoor acrylic courts. John Smeaton leisure centre has six outdoor floodlit courts and Fearnville leisure centre has two outdoor courts.
Social tennis for both adults, women only and juniors. Organised match-play, timed tennis and fun tournaments are all examples of social tennis opportunities offered at the tennis centre at John Charles centre for sport and at many private clubs around the city.
Cardio tennis sessions - fun fitness activity, a cross between tennis and circuit training at John Charles centre for sport suitable for ages 16 years and over.
Free access to courts at parks across the city.
Classes
Tots tennis is a fun introduction to tennis for 2-4 year olds. Classes are held at Rothwell leisure centre and at many private clubs around the city.
Junior coaching is available for players of any ability from 4 years+ and run on a school term basis at the tennis centre at John Charles centre for sport. Classes are structured according to age with the youngest children starting out with foam balls and larger rackets.

Junior coaching sessions are also available at Rothwell leisure centre and Scott Hall leisure centre.
Adult coaching is available for individual or groups of players of any ability from beginners to advanced and tactical coaching for experienced players. Sessions are available at the tennis centre at John Charles centre for sport and at many private clubs around the city.
Disability tennis sessions are available at the tennis centre at John Charles centre for sport. The sessions are suitable for all ages and any disability. Tennis wheelchairs and a coach proficient in sign language are available.
Competitive tennis – city-wide doubles and singles leagues for all ages are available at the tennis centre at John Charles centre for sport and are complimented by LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) sanctioned events at clubs and tennis centres.
Corporate events – the tennis centre at the John Charles centre for sport can organise tailored events for groups.
Performance tennis
Performance tennis squads take place for promising young players aged between 5 and 18 years old. Entry is by invitation or by assessment from one of the performance tennis coaches. The performance tennis squads feed into the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) regional squads. There are also opportunities for players aged 16 years + to attend the Carnegie AASE (Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence) or coach education programmes.
