About the Service
A Talking Books service is being introduced to libraries across the city. Additionally, any Talking Book in stock in Leeds may be requested in any library. This request service is free for anyone who has a visual impairment or other difficulty with the printed word.

Who can borrow and how much does it cost?
Anyone with an existing adult library card may borrow talking books. If you haven’t got a library card, you can easily join at any library, all you need to take with you is some proof of identity. The hire charge for Talking Books is £1.50 per title and they can be hired for three weeks. Talking Books can be borrowed FREE of charge by adults and young people who have a visual impairment or difficulty with the printed word. Talking Books are not otherwise loaned on children’s library cards – a separate free Story Tapes loan service for children is provided in many libraries.

What is available
The service offers books on cassette and on CD, mostly unabridged. The wide choice includes popular fiction, romances, crime and mysteries, classics, biographies, humour and drama, travel, war and adventure. They can be played on any cassette or CD player. Library staff will assist anyone needing Talking Books to obtain the titles they require. Details of all Talking Books throughout the city can be found in the The Leeds Library and Information Service catalogue, available online, and also in all libraries. Any Talking Book in stock in Leeds may be requested in any library, or directly from the online catalogue. Requests are free for anyone eligible for the free loan service, otherwise the standard requests charge is payable
