'Discovering Leeds' is part of the Leodis project, funded by the New Opportunities Fund, now Big Lottery, and managed by Leeds Library and Information Service. A wide range of resources from the Local Studies Library have been used to put together information on topics connected with the history of Leeds.
There are currently 9 topics available on the site, ranging from Briggate to the Waterfront, the Theatres to Industrial Leeds and the Town Hall to the Markets. Other topics added cover Poverty and Riches, The Headrow and Leeds Classical Music.
Find out all about the building of the Town Hall, the growth of industry in Leeds and the changing face of the waterfront. See some of the original playbills from old Leeds theatres, or find out how Briggate has altered over the years.
The information is aimed at all with a general interest in the history of Leeds as well as students from key stage 2 upwards.
The material is presented with images, maps, playbills and other material to support the research. Some of the images are available on the Leodis website at www.leodis.net but others have been made available for the first time.
Each section has an extensive bibliography to enable you to follow the research.
A form is available from the homepage to record your views on the new information and suggest ideas for future profiles.
