Get Creative is a unique partnership project between Leeds City Council, Northern Ballet Theatre, Opera North, Phoenix Dance Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Yorkshire Dance.
The annual project offers young people aged 10-16 the opportunity to take part in workshops fusing theatre, film, dance and music, during which they can engage with the arts, shape their own learning in a creative environment and create their own unique performance piece. Many of the young people involved do not normally have access to the arts, are at risk of exclusion or live in areas where there is little arts provision.
Participants are recruited through an extensive network of key workers and organisations within the voluntary and public sectors.
Volunteering opportunities
Get Creative also offers volunteering opportunities for young people who wish to develop a career in the arts. Volunteers work alongside the artists gaining a valuable insight into the planning, management and delivery of large arts projects and are given the opportunity to achieve a Gold Arts Award (a nationally recognised career development qualification).
