Driver Escort
This is not just a driving job; this is a job for someone who has skills above and beyond driving a bus through busy traffic areas and in quiet urban streets to collect our service users.
This is a job at the front line of Passenger transport, meeting and greeting our service users first thing in the morning and collecting them at the end of a busy day.
Our service users are some of the most vulnerable in Leeds; Older people and Adults with Learning difficulties as well as Children with Special Educational Needs. All of whom we transport so they can access care in the community.
This is a job for a person who has a sense of humour, is patient and caring but with an assertive approach and who can work using their own initiative, and you need to be able to manoeuvre wheel chairs and mobility equipment on and off the vehicles.
A safe and comfortable journey is the responsibility of our drivers. We know all our service users and they travel in the knowledge that we take our service above and beyond their expectations.
All our drivers are MIDAS trained, have an enhanced CRB check and undergo a medical assessment prior to appointment.

Childcare Assistant - Kalvant Rauth
Kalvant first became interested in becoming a Childcare Assistant when she was the organiser for her local Mother and Toddler group. “I really enjoyed this experience and wanted to continue to work with children.”
Kalvant was initially concerned that childcare would be a problem as she had a young family but her children were able to attend the nursery with her. Now they are at school her hours have been changed to suit her changing needs. Kalvant says “The flexibility offered by the council has been ideal as I can still work but am able to take my children to and from school.”
The childcare assistant is an entry level job and doesn’t need any specific qualifications only that you enjoy working with children. On a daily basis the job involves helping with structured play and activities planned and organised by the Nursery Assistant/Officer.
Opportunities exist to study for a NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Kalvant is currently doing the 2 year practical course at college. Paid for by the council once qualified it will offer Kalvant the opportunity to apply for posts as a Nursery Assistant/Officer.
Kalvant says “ I achieve job satisfaction by helping children achieve. I also really enjoy my course as I am learning to understand why we use different types of play and I look forward to taking on more responsibility once qualified.”

Oliver Priestley – Group Engineer
Oliver is a Group Engineer and is responsible for a small team of civil engineers overseeing the design and construction of Highway and Infrastructure schemes. These range from the design of developer driven projects, the upgrade of city centre streets, such as Briggate’s pedestrian area and the development of Millennium Square, to smaller more localised schemes such as the private street works upgrade programme.
Oliver enjoys the variety of his job. “I’ve helped manage a wide range of high profile schemes from design to completion…but what’s unique for our industry is I can do this in my own backyard.” Oliver sees this as a major benefit as “working on similar schemes elsewhere in the industry would mean travelling up and down the country and wouldn’t give me the same work life balance”
Finding solutions to complex problems is a key aspect of the role. Oliver finds the professionalism and team approach of the service a real asset. He says ‘it’s a real team effort here, there are no egos and everyone’s happy to share what they know…. it makes it a great place to work and it means I’m always learning and developing.”
