Do you need help to decide your nextstep in learning, skills and work?

nextstep is a free careers advice service for adults:

  • aged 20 or more
  • aged 18 or 19 who have been referred to nextstep by Jobcentre Plus

nextstep offers a huge range of information and advice to help you improve your skills and your job prospects, whether you are in work or not.

Working with you face-to-face or in group activities we will:

  • help you understand the job market 
  • give advice on ways to progress in your job and career
  • give help and advice in searching and applying for jobs
  • provide advice about funding to support learning

Jobshops
Leeds City Council’s Jobshops provide advice on employment and learning opportunities for people looking for work.

Jobshops offer a free, impartial, face-to-face service, where you can talk in confidence to a fully qualified advisor. We will look at your individual needs, and explain what support is available to help you move into work. We offer help with CVs, job applications and interview skills, the latest information on local job vacancies and internet access for jobsearch. If we cannot meet your needs, we will point you to an organisation which can. Jobshops are a partner in nextstep.

Careers Advice Service
Careers Advice offer practical advice to help you make the right career choices whether you want to learn new skills, change career or return to work. The website includes profiles on over 700 jobs and learndirect-futures which lets you match your skills and interests to specific jobs.

Leeds Connexions Centre 
If you have left school, or are not attending school, and you are aged 13-19, you can get help at The Connexions Centre. You can get help up to age of 25 if you have a learning difficulty or disability. Their website  includes details of local Connexions Access Points and other resources.

Help and advice on job hunting and benefits. Jobcentre Plus is one of the main advertisers of job vacancies. Details of local offices, information about different types of support for people of working age, and a job search facility, can be found on their website using the link to the right.
