Did you know in March 2011 alone

  • 10,846 tonnes of waste has been recycled or composted in Leeds, of which
  • 3,121 tonnes were collected at Household Waste Sorting Sites
  • 2,208 tonnes of garden waste has been composted from your brown bins   
  • 2,318 tonnes of recyclable materials has been collected from your green bins/bags

The recycling rate for the year April 2010 to end March 2011 was 35.1%.  This was higher than the year before, which was 31.25%.

2010/11 figures include:

  • 8,578 tonnes of glass
  • 11,003 tonnes of wood
  • 41,672 tonnes of garden waste and leaf fall
  • 25,352 tonnes of recycling collected in the green bins and bags
  • 982 tonnes of food waste in the Rothwell area
  • 332,924 tonnes of domestic waste collected in total
  • 614 kg of waste per household was landfilled
