General Guidance
If you need to apply for planning permission you will be asked to complete an application form to submit with your drawings, the fee and other information. There are different application forms depending on the type of application you are making. This section lists the application forms that are available. There are also guidance notes for each application type to assist you in completing the application form.
Validation criteria are also provided for each application type with detail what you need to submit with your application for it to be valid. Failure to provide this information or provide written justification about why it is not relevant will result in your application being invalid. There is also other useful information and links to other websites which will help you complete your application.
The forms, guidance notes and validation criteria are available on this page in PDF format for you to download and use. Validation criteria are listed on the right of the screen. You will need to submit the original plus 3 copies of the application form, plans or drawings and other information. Please send completed applications to:

Application Fees
Most applications will also require a fee. Full details of fees are given in the guidance note. Please note fees will increase from 6th April 2008. The new fee schedule can be downloaded from the right hand side of the screen.
Ownership
If you are the sole owner of the land to which your planning application relates, you must sign Certificate A on the application form. If, 21 days before the application you were not the sole owner of any part of the land, you will need to formally notify the owners of the land. You do this by completing Notice No.1 and sending it to anyone who was the owner, or part owner, of any part of the site. You will also have to sign Certificate B on the application form.
Householder Applications
Applications for extensions to houses or bungalows or for domestic garages or other development in the garden of a house (but not flats) may be submitted on the special simplified application form. The standard form should be used for all other applications for planning permission. Guidance on whether you need planning permission or whether your proposal may be permitted development is available on the right of the screen together with the permitted development enquiry form and guidance note.

Outline Applications
Applications for outline permission do not as much detail as full applications but must still include information on use, the amount of development, indicative layout, scale parameters and indicative access points. Matters such as access, appearance, landscaping, layout and scale can be approved at a later stage by a reserved matters application. Please refer to our note for further information on when to submit an outline application.

Use this form to remove or vary conditions imposed by a planning permission.

Approval of Details Reserved by Permission
Use this form to apply for approval that conditions imposed by a planning permission have been discharged/complied with. There will be a fee for this application from 6th April 2008.

Conservation Area Consent

Tree Works
This form should be used if you want to carry out any work on trees protected by a Conservation Area or Tree Preservation Order. Please note that there are penalties - up to £20,000 on summary conviction - for unauthorised work likely to destroy a protected tree.
