Leeds City Council services
Leeds City Council works with its contractors and partners to promote efficient use of natural resources such as water. We publish a wide range of best practice information and run workshops to communicate this information.
Leeds City Council activities
Leeds City Council spends £1.9 billion each year delivering Council services - either directly or through contracts. A significant proportion of its budget is used to purchase goods and services such as road salt, office equipment and construction materials which have environmental impacts in manufacture use and disposal. By including environmental considerations in our purchasing decisions we can help to reduce associated environmental impacts. We have negotiated contracts with local food suppliers to reduce food miles. We have also secured contracts to improve and replace the city’s lighting stock with environmental white lighting, saving 15% on annual energy consumption and cutting out light pollution.
