Leeds City Council services
Leeds has a fast growing economy which is matched with an increasing demand for travel.

The City Council and its partners are able to influence the sustainability of this travel through its transport strategy. Initiatives include infrastructure for cycling and walking and 'quality' bus initiatives

Leeds City Council activities
The City Council operates a fleet of vehicles to collect waste, transport those with special needs and maintain public highways. Vehicle emissions are being reduced by use of route-planning software, specifying low-emission vehicles and integration of 5% 'bio' fuels for fleet vehicles.

To reduce emissions associated with over 14,000 Council and 1,024 Education Leeds staff** travelling to work, the Council operates a low-cost travel card scheme to promote public transport use and encourages cycling and walking through the provision of staff showers and secure cycle-parking. Staff on Council business have access to a range of 'pool' cars.

The City Council is increasingly adopting flexible working methods for staff including  home working and compressed hours.
