Land Allocation helps preserve local character

As part of the council’s Unitary Development Plan (UDP) and Local Development Framework (LDF) the local authority decides on the use to which local land can be put.   This is in line with our planning policies and relevant government guidance.

Any proposals on the development of, or change in use of land have to be approved by the local planning authority.  In Leeds this is through the Development Department. When planning applications are submitted the council asks for the views of locals on the proposals.  The responses are considered alongside other factors before deciding if the development is appropriate for the site, and the wider area.

Development within Leeds is considered on its merits in relation to planning policies and government guidance.
