Your tenancy agreement

Your tenancy agreement outlines your rights and responsibilities as a tenant and those of Leeds City Council as a landlord.

Your tenancy agreement is a legally binding contract between you and Leeds City Council. This is the case even if you live in a home managed by one of the Arms Length Management Organisations or the Belle Isle Tenant Management Organisation in the City.

There are two types of Council tenancy in Leeds, introductory and secure.

An introductory tenancy is granted to all new tenants of Leeds City Council and lasts for a year. Following this it will become a secure tenancy. This type of tenancy does not have all of the rights of a secure tenancy. We have explained this in the documents you will find on this page.

A secure tenancy has more rights than an introductory one and we also explain this in the documents you can download here.

Your tenancy agreement means that you should be able to live in peace and comfort in your home. It also means that we can act against tenants who break the terms of the agreement.

By keeping to the Agreement, you will help the Department of Neighbourhoods and Housing to deliver our vision to create better neighbourhoods and confident communities
