Dolphin Award Scheme

 Dolphin Award Scheme

Information about swimming lessons for children and adults following the Dolphin Award Scheme.

Children’s lessons
The Dolphin awards scheme helps to develop a child’s skills and water confidence over 10-stages taking them on a journey from tadpoles to barracudas. Lessons following the scheme take place at: Bramley, Fearnville, Holt Park, Aquatics centre at the John Charles Centre for Sport, Morley and Pudsey.

All other council leisure centres follow the National Plan for Teaching Swimming.

On the scheme, children are assessed in an assessment week at the end of term. Badges and certificates are available to purchase from reception on the completion of each stage. Details about the skills your child will learn at each stage can be found in the ‘Dolphin awards guide’.

Following the assessment week, children are then allocated a place in a lesson for the following term. Parents must attend during enrolment week to confirm their place and make a payment for the following term.

How to enrol
To enrol your child on lessons please contact the leisure centre that you want to attend to find out when the next enrolment date is. Enrolment sessions are managed on a first come, first service basis for all available lesson places. If your child has had lessons before and you are unsure which class to enrol your child onto your child will need to be assessed. Assessments are done by a qualified swim teacher and can be arranged by contacting the leisure centre.

Adult lessons
Adult lessons take place at leisure centres throughout the city and are suitable for complete beginners or anyone wanting to build their confidence in the water. To find out what time lessons take place at a centre near you please contact the centre directly or check out the swim programme.
