Safer Leeds Drugs Team

Partnership working

We bring together various agencies and contributes on task groups to co-ordinate the joint working of statutory agencies, the voluntary sector and local communities.

We aim to protect communities from drug-related crime and disorder, in particular:

Helping young people resist substance misuse, addressing the treatment of drug users in the criminal justice system, getting more drug users into treatment and reducing the availability of illegal drugs.

Our priorities

Young people
Helping young people resist drugs misuse and making sure resources are directed towards the most vulnerable young people in Leeds.

Communities
Protecting communities from drug-related anti-social and criminal behaviour and making sure that activities are targeted towards the communities most affected by drug use across the city.

Criminal justice intervention
Addressing the treatment of drug users while in the criminal justice system through the Drug Intervention Program.

Treatment
Delivering more treatment to those needing drug services in community based settings.

Availability
Reducing the availability of illegal drugs by closer working with the Police and Customs. Focussing resources on the arrest of drug dealers.

Protecting communities from drug-related harm is also one of the four priorities of the Leeds Community Safety Strategy 2002-2005, published by Leeds Community Safety Partnership. We are therefore an integral part of this strategy which also seeks to reduce anti-social behaviour by young people, violent crime and burglary.
