You can now get more involved in choosing the type of social care support you want, so you have more control over your services and can tailor them to suit your needs. This new approach is known as self-directed support.
People who have been assessed as needing social care support, and who would like to choose and pay for their own services, can receive their adult social care money (known as a personal budget) as a direct payment. You can choose services provided by the council, independent providers or a mix of both.
But if you don't want to manage your budget yourself, there are a range of other options. Read more about self-directed support here.
