How are we consulting on residential and day care services

Consultation is taking place about our older people's residential and day care services.

We're speaking to everyone concerned about proposed changes to residential and day care services-including people who use the services, their families and friends, and the staff who provide them. We'll make sure everyone is informed and involved right through the process.

So how will this work?

Wider consultation

We have consulted and will continue to work with our partner organisations who have an interest in supporting older people in the city, such as the voluntary, community and private sectors. Their views are very important to us as we plan and discuss these changes, as they will have an increasing role providing care and support in Leeds.

Thanks to all who took part in our wider consultation and took the opportunity to complete a questionnaire online or from a One Stop Centre or who attended one of the Future of Adult Social Care consultation events. We are currently looking at all the feedback gathered which we hope to share with you very soon.

In addition to the wider consultation from the Monday 16 May 2011 we began meeting with each individual service users and their relatives and carers.

For people who are not able to make decisions for themselves or who cannot be accompanied by relatives or friends we are arranging for an independent advocate to be present, who will make sure any decisions are made in the best interests of the individual.

We are using a questionnaire to gather people's views and we'll make sure this is tailored to individual communication needs.

We understand people's wishes to stay with friends they have made in a centre over the years and will do everything we can to help friendship groups to stay together or make it as easy as possible for people to stay in touch.

Please rest assured that the council will continue to ensure we meet older people's care needs with a range of services, including specialist care services for those unable to live in their own homes.

All the feedback from the consultation will go to the council's Executive Board in September 2011 with the recommendations for each service, where a decision about the future of the residential and day service will be taken.
