One-to-one Reviews in Mental Health Day Services

If you use adult social care mental health day services based at  Lovell Park, Stocks Hill and The Vale day centres a one-to-one review will be arranged with you.

The review will look at why you need support and if the service/s you are receiving are sufficient and working well. It will also involve discussing how your needs could be met in others ways.

Why am I having a review?

All of the people who use our services have a review at least once a year. This is to make sure that the services they are getting are the right ones to meet their needs.  This year there will be some additional questions as part of your review. This is because the review is also part of a consultation on the future of mental health day support in Leeds.

Over the coming months we are running a consultation on shaping the future of mental health services in Leeds.

There are two parts to the consultation process:

  • From 18 July one-to-one review meetings will be carried out for a 12-week period with people who use council run day centres.
  • From Autumn 2011 a citywide consultation on Community Recovery Services will take place.

Is there a difference between the review and the one-to-one consultation?

The one to one consultation meetings with people who use the council run mental health day services are part of the person’s review.

As well as looking at your current support needs and whether the services you receive are meeting these needs you will also have the chance to talk about how your needs could be met in the future.

There will be a wider consultation on the future of day services in the Autumn which will look at the future of day support in Leeds. The comments people make in their reviews about the support that helps them, the different ways their needs could be met and any barriers to accessing different types of service will all be anonymised and fed into this consultation. People will also have a chance to take part in the consultation events that will be organised in the Autumn.

Who will be doing my review?

  • You can choose who does your review.
  • The review can be carried out by either your key worker or another member of adult social care staff who is experienced in mental health services and is familiar with Leeds.
  • If you have a social worker or care co-ordinator they will be invited to the review.
  • You can also invite a carer or a friend to come to your review.

What do I need to do before the review?

You do not have to do anything other than read the information you will be given by the centre. However, it would be useful to think about specific things you like about the service/s you receive. You may also consider what stops you from using other services and note down your ideas. Is there anything that you would like to do that you haven’t already?

You should have received some information sheets about the different types of support offered in both the day centres and the wider community. These might help you think about what other services you might like to try. You can download these from the right hand side of this page.

What will happen in the review?

You should have been given two information sheets, one called ‘One-to-one review information sheet’ and the other ‘Your review reminder sheet’. These explain all you need to know about the one-to-one review. You can download these from the right hand side of this page.

Is there a chance that my support will be withdrawn?

All adult social care departments have eligibility criteria. This helps decided whether or not someone is entitled to support from the council. We are aware that a number of people using day services in Leeds do not have eligible needs. However, if you are already using our services and don’t have eligible needs we will continue to offer you support to meet your goals.

Are there any other ways I can get involved in the consultation?

Yes, in the Autumn we will be carry out a citywide consultation about the future model of mental health support services in Leeds. Day centre service users are also able to take part in this.

Where can I get more information?

  • Factsheets detailing the different types of support available can be downloaded from the right hand side of this page.
  • Staff at the day centres will keep you up to date with the latest information they have.
  • Have your say at the service user involvement group. You can ask your nominated representative from each service to raise any issues you may have.
  • If you have any questions regarding the wider context of this review you can email socialcarechanges@leeds.gov.uk and we will answer your email as soon as possible.
