Searching for local services and support has just got a whole lot quicker and easier thanks to the launch of a new directory.
Whether you are looking for some assistance around the home, a mobile hairdresser or an agency providing personal care - help is at hand.
The Leeds Directory www.leedsdirectory.org lets you search for personal care and other services in your local area, postcode or right across Leeds.
It offers a ratings system similar to websites like Amazon and Ebay so you can see what other people think of a service before using it. Search results can even be filtered to show only quality assured services whose staff have signed a code of good practice and undergone a police check.
The directory has been developed as an expansion of the popular Keeping House directory of domestic services, which has existed in various forms since 2005 and contains many of its original listings.
Along with domestic services, the directory includes a wide spectrum of other services, including community centres, libraries, voluntary organisations, local courses, personal care providers and more are being added all the time.
Care and Repair Leeds, which helps us run the directory, is the Home Improvement Agency for Leeds and has been running for 22 years. It is an independent agency with charitable status accredited by Leeds Supporting People and covers the whole of the Leeds metropolitan district.
The aim of the agency is to promote independent living for older people, disabled adults and children as well as people on low incomes. Care and Repair was Home Improvement Agency of the Year in 2009.
People who do not have internet access can still use the directory. Either by calling Care and Repair on the Directory Helpline (0113) 391 8333 to request a paper copy of the listings in their area or asking a care manager to search for a service on their behalf.
